Motivating Students to Read

A hot topic for primary school library staff has been (and most likely always will be) how to motivate students to read. No doubt there are many fabulous ideas out there that people have implemented. I was fortunate enough to inherit a fantastic program from my predecessor when I took over this position in 2012. The program has stood the test of time, having first been introduced in the school over ten years ago. The former teacher librarian would see students who achieved in the classroom or on the sport’s field acknowledged with awards at assemblies and, in her own words, she wanted “readers” to have their moment in the sun and make reading cool to the school community.
